Top Winter Football Transfers
Top Winter Football Transfers in 2018
A week and a half has gone since the January Transfers window 2018 has officially shut down. This is your part until June 2017. In case you're glad, awesome; in case you're not, extreme. There's nothing else top-level groups can do to modify the state of their season now.
While due date day was somewhat boring
(typically in this way, given the nearness of a full slate of Premier League
recreations on Tuesday evening), some great business was directed consistently.
Crosswise over Europe, sharp arrangements were made that will altogether
support certain clubs' fortunes.
Here, we look at the top 10
deals made over the course of the window
1. Philippe
Coutinho (Liverpool to Barcelona, £142 million)
Philippe
Coutinho turned into the second-most costly player in history when
he fixed his £142m exchange from Liverpool to Barcelona. The Brazilian put pen to paper on a five-and-a-half-year
contract with a £355m buy out condition,
depicting the move as a "blessing from heaven".
It put a conclusion to an extended
exchange adventure. Liverpool figured
out how to oppose Barcelona's advances in the late spring; however their
assurance to sign the 25-year-old was
just improved by his noteworthy exhibitions in the main portion of the
season. Presently it's dependent upon him to proceed in a similar vein in
Spain.
2. Virgil Van Dijk (Southampton to Liverpool, £75 million)
Southampton
centre-back Virgil van Dijk will join Liverpool when the transfer window re-opens
on 1 January in a world record £75m deal. The Netherlands international had been expected to join the Reds last summer after he
handed in a transfer request. But a move fell through when Liverpool apologized
for making an alleged illegal approach for
the 26-year-old.The fee is the most ever paid for a defender - Manchester
City paid £52m to Monaco for Benjamin Mendy in July.
Van Dijk said in a
statement he was "delighted and honored" to sign for the Merseyside
club and accepted he had had a "difficult last few months" at St
Mary's.
3. Alexis Sanchez (Arsenal to Manchester United, Swap Deal for
Mkhitaryan)
Chile
forward Sanchez, 29, who almost joined Manchester City last summer, has signed a four-and-a-half-year deal
worth £14m a year after tax.
City ended their interest last week as they
felt making him their best-paid player may affect team spirit. United's signing of Sanchez, who will wear the number
seven shirt, was announced on the club's Twitter account with him playing
'Glory, Glory Man Utd' on a piano.
Mourinho has made him his first signing of the January transfer window.
The Portuguese said: "Alexis is one of the best
attacking players in the world and he will complete our very young and talented
group of attacking players.
”He will bring his ambition, drive and personality -
qualities that make a Manchester United player."
4. Diego Costa (Chelsea to
Atletico Madrid, £57 million)
The two clubs agreed terms and the
28-year-old Spain international passed his medical.
However, he cannot be registered to play for
the La Liga side until 1 January, when the club's transfer window ban comes to an end. In his debut game he
scored a goal for his team.
Costa left Atletico for Chelsea in 2014 and
scored 59 goals in 120 games appearances for the Blues.
He won two Premier League titles and the
League Cup with the club, but found himself exiled at Stamford Bridge over the
summer.
Costa was told by text message that he was not in boss Antonio
Conte's plans for this season and he spent much of August in his native Brazil.
Conte takes his Chelsea team to Atletico
Madrid in the Champions League on Wednesday, and he said of Costa: "As
I've said before, I have no problems with Diego.”
5. Pierre- Emerick Aubameyang (Borussia
Dortmund to Arsenal, £56 million)
The Gunners had two bids for Aubameyang rejected
by Dortmund before agreeing a fee that eclipses the £46.5m they paid for
Alexandre Lacazette in July.
Arsenal said the 28-year-old - the 2015
African Footballer of the Year - had joined on "a long-term
contract".
Dortmund agreed to the sale after striking a
deal to sign Chelsea forward Michy Batshuayi on loan.
Aubameyang
said: "I'm really happy to be here in this great team.
"The club has such a big history and
great players like Thierry Henry. He's an example for us strikers. I'm a fast
player and I score goals too, like Henry a little bit. I think I have to work a
lot to be like him, but I will do.
"I hope that we will come back to the
top as soon as possible. I will do my best to join in."
6. Aymeric Laporte (Athletic Club Bilbao to
Manchester City, £57 million)
The fee for Laporte, yet to win a cap for
France, takes spending by Premier League clubs this month to £252m - a record
for a January transfer window.
The 23-year-old's arrival takes City manager
Pep Guardiola's spending on defenders and a goalkeeper since the end of last
season to £215.5m.
The club's previous record fee was the £55m paid
for Kevin de Bruyne in 2015.
The
centre-back has played 19 times for France at Under-21 level.
"I am looking forward to working under
manager Pep Guardiola and trying to help the club to achieve success," he
told the City website.
"It means a lot that the club have shown
faith in me and I am excited to get started."
Concern about skipper Vincent Kompany's
injury record and uncertainty over the reliability of Eliaquim Mangala led
Guardiola to believe he required another central defender in addition to
current first choices John Stones and Nicolas Otamendi.
7. Henrikh Mkhitaryan (Manchester United to
Arsenal, Swap Deal with Alexis Sanchez)
Arsenal signed Henrikh Mkhitaryan from Manchester United,
in a swap deal with Alexis Sanchez.
Mkhitaryan,
who has scored once and contributed five assists in 15 Premier League
appearances this season, joined United when Mourinho piped Wenger to sign
him.
His last appearance was in the FA Cup
third-round win over Derby on 5 January, and he was left out of subsequent
Premier League matches against Stoke and Burnley.
"I'm very happy that we could finish
this deal," said Mkhitaryan. "It's a dream come true because I've
always dreamed of playing for Arsenal. Now I'm here, I'll do my best for this
club to create history."
Mkhitaryan did not start a Premier League
game in almost three months after he was substituted at half-time during his
full United debut against Manchester City.
8. Lucas Moura (Paris Saint Germain to
Tottenham, £23 million)
The 25-year-old Brazilian, who has signed a
contract until 2023, joined PSG for £33.5m from Sao Paulo in 2013 but has made
just six substitute appearances this season.
"It's a new chapter of my life, a new
challenge," he said.
"I will give my best for this club
because I think we have a lot of quality and we can win big things. Why not the
Champions League?"
"I'm so happy. It's a big club and I
need to enjoy it, work hard and show my quality."
Lucas - who will wear the number 27 shirt for
Spurs - scored 46 goals and contributed 50 assists in 229 appearances for the
French club.
He has not featured in this season's
Champions League for PSG, and is therefore available for Spurs in the knockout
stage.
9. Oliver Giroud (Arsenal to Chelsea, £18
million)
France international Giroud, 31, leaves
Arsenal having scored 105 goals in 253 games since signing from Montpellier for
a reported £12m in June 2012.
Borussia Dortmund have also confirmed a deal
to sign Chelsea forward Michy Batshuayi until the end of the season.
Earlier on the closing day of the winter
transfer window, Dortmund sold Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to Arsenal.
"Chelsea
is one of the biggest teams in the Premier League - they have won maybe the
most trophies in the last six or seven years," Giroud said in a statement.
"It's a massive club and I am proud to
sign for Chelsea, and I'm looking forward to playing."
Giroud's final appearance for Arsenal was as
a substitute in Tuesday's 3-1 defeat by Swansea.
After his move to Chelsea was confirmed,
Giroud thanked Gunners fans for their part in a "beautiful story"
after "five and a half amazing years within the Arsenal family".
"I would like to especially thank the
fans for their unconditional support upon my arrival," he wrote on
Twitter.
10. Theo Walcott (Arsenal to Everton, £20
million)
Walcott, 28, becomes Sam Allardyce's second
signing of the January transfer window following the £27m paid for striker Cenk
Tosun from Besiktas.
The move brings to an end Walcott's 12-year stay
at Arsenal, where he scored 108 goals in 397 appearances.
"There's something about this move I've
just felt good about," he said.
Walcott's former club Southampton were also
interested in a deal.
But Walcott, who has not started a league
game for Arsenal this season, believes Allardyce can reignite his career.
"It felt like it was time for me to move
on [from Arsenal]," he said.
"It was sad but it's exciting at the
same time and I want to reignite my career and push Everton to win things as
they have done before.
"The manager is very hungry and it's
just what I need. I've had a couple of chats with him and straightaway I felt
that hunger and that desire that he wanted from me."
In a statement, Arsenal said: "We all
thank Theo for his contribution to the club and wish him well for the
future."
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger admitted he did
not want Walcott to leave but said he could not guarantee the England
international game time and admitted that was a "sensitive subject" in a World Cup year.
Walcott, who has 47 England caps, has not
featured for his country since the friendly against Spain in November 2016.
